November 2006 Steve was awarded the Humane Society of the United States PETS FOR LIFE AWARD at the annual Cat Writers’ Association Awards Banquet for the best single work of the year published in the mass media, highlighting keeping cats in their homes for life on WGN Radio's Pet Central. Steve's WGN show won a Muse Medallion for Best Radio Presentation. Steve's colleague and friend Kim Campbell Thorton earns the Winn Feline Foundation 2006 Media Award! Steve celebrates a decade at WGN Radio. 
Steve appears with Ethel, and dog trainer Jamie Damato. Lucy comes out of her retirement for this benefit for Tree House at a Chicago Bank. Opening for Steve is one of his favorite musical acts, the Rock Cats.
At Westminster, Dog Writer's Association of America dinner Steve wins Special Award, the AKC Responsible Dog Ownership Public Service Award; and a Maxwell Award for Best Newspaper Column.
Steve is among those honored at Spotlight Humane, a Humane Society of the United States benefit to combat dog fighting.
Steve is named to the Board of Directors of the Winn Feline Foundation, a non-profit organization supporting health related studies about medical problems affecting cats. 
Steve's involved with an intiative by Meals On Wheels with Banfield, the Pet Hospital which hopes to feed thousands of pets belonging to shut ins this holiday season. You can help too...
