AAHA Lifestage Guidelines

Dr. Heather Loenser, senior veterinary officer at the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) discusses the new AAHA Canine Lifestage Guidelines (which is free!)

AAHA reviewers who compiled the Guidelines agreed that there are unique lifestages for dogs. Of course, it all begins with puppies (birth until the dog is done growing rapidly), then young adult (until they are done growing rapidly until until they experience physical and also social maturity), mature adult (end of physical and social and social maturity until last 25 percent of expected lifespan for the breed or mix), senior and finally end of life.

I also speak with Dr. Loenser about getting ahead of canine cognitive dysfunction (like Alzheimer’s in dogs) – if indeed that is possible. And it is possible.
