Celebrate Earth Day – Save a Snake

Good deeds are sometimes rewarded. Earlier in the year, Yu Feng of Liaoning Province in China found a dying black snake in the grass outside his home. He brought the snake indoors, received veterinary care and saved the snake’s life. In about 20 days, the snake recovered.

Once the snake appeared to be in good shape, he released him outside. But the snake wouldn’t go. He apparently grew attached to Mr. Feng.

“People around me said the snake had come back to repay my kindness, so I kept it,” said Mr. Feng.  Now, a family pet, Long Long the snake was cared for by Mr. Feng.

One night when Mr. Feng was sleeping, in the wee hours, he felt something cold over his face. It was Long Long, who was attempting to awaken Mr. Feng.
“He had never woken me up before, but I was so sleepy I went back
to sleep. But Long Long grabbed my clothes with his teeth.” Then Long Long crawled over to Mr. Feng’s mother’s room and whipped her with his tail.

It turned out the house was on fire. And Long Long save their lives.

Long Long could have slithered away from the smoke on his own. Instead, Long Long, apparently consciously, chose to save two lives, including the life who once saved his. Of course, Long Long couldn’t open the front door to get out without help.
