Dr. Google is Not Man’s Best Friend
Veterinary behaviorist Dr. Chris Pachel on my national Steve Dale’s Pet World radio show says that our pets are paying a price – though their caretakers love them – because people source their information from pet store employees, friends at the dog park or Dr. Google.
One example, is that the cat urinates outside the box – and people assume the problem is behavioral, when in fact, the cat is diabetic or has kidney disease or any number of other medical issues.
Another example may be when a behavior issue does occur – and it’s pretty clear it’s behavioral – but you guess wrong. For example, a dog barking when people are away might have separation anxiety. But the dog may be barking at kids on the street because it’s fun or destroying pillow cases because the dog just has not gotten enough exercise and might be also having fun.
