Military Working Dogs: America's Forgotten Heroes
Memorial Day is supposed to be more than about weekend sales at big box or electronic stores, or picnics….it’s about family. I don’t mean our own immediate families; I mean the family we call America. . . and those who maintain our freedom even as I write this. Our soldiers come in many shapes and sizes, and in two species…human and dog. Make no mistake dogs do work in the military.
In fact, no one knows how many lives military working dogs save, but the numbers is significant. They detect explosives, including land mines and work as protection dogs. The bonds they have with their solider handler is more than can be imagined. After all, they depend on one another everyday. And often entire units depend on dogs. Still, though, when dogs are ‘retired,’ the military doesn’t exactly know what to do with this used ‘equipment.’ Please talk with your U.S. representatives.
