Military Working Dogs, Unsung War Heroes
On my WLS Radio show today (May 22), Steve Dale’s Pet World, 2 pm cst (www.wlsam.com or AM 890), Vietman War hero John Burnam talks about military working dogs, and his efforts to create a War Memorial in Washington D.C. to honor these four-legged heroes.
All I can say is that IT’S ABOUT THIS! Since World War II dogs have been used for all sorts of functions to help our soldiers, saving more lives than anyone can count – likely well into the hundreds of thousands. People are alive today because of their working canine partners. And today in Afghanistan and Iraq dogs are being utilized more than ever before.
Too often Memorial Day is about picnics, and a day off work – that’s fine, i suppose.
But please remember those solider who have fought for our country, and those now fighting for our country….I am talking about human and canine soldiers. I thank them all for their service. And I very much support the effort to create a Military Working Dog National Monument.
I hope you do too.
