Pets and the Pandemic: Dr. Aubrey Fine
Aubrey Fne is one of my favorite people….he’s a pioneer regarding understanding why animal assisted interventions work, and the human animal bond. He’s authored many books, is a world renowned speaker (and magician and hockey expert). A licensed psychologist, Dr. Fine is on the Human Animal Advisory Board at Pet Partners. His practice specializes in treating children with ADHD, learning disabilities, developmental disorders and parent child relations, and he often uses animals in his therapy. On my national Steve Dale’s Pet World radio show, he comments on the impact of the pandemic regarding our best friends with four legs or feathers.
He answers this question: Are the pets offering therapy for us? Or are pets picking up on our increased stress, and suffering as a result.
We talk a bit about play therapy for pets and even for people. And talk about how right our pets are giving us hope. And also, what we can learn right now our pets. He points out lessons to learn from dogs in his book Afternoons with Puppy: Inspirations from a Therapist and His Animals.
