Pit Bull-Type Dogs Protecting School Children in Texas

Lt. John Julin

Lt. John Julin with the Independent School District in Ferris, TX explains in a fascinating interview on how dogs protect children in schools. These schools have their own police department within the school district, and he has a narcotics and a weapons detection dog. Each dog works daily to insure a safe environment. The dogs do find things, but mostly they’re a deterrent.

You look at Lt. Julin’s dogs, and most people would call them pit bulls – in fact, they’re merely mixed breed dogs like most dogs referred to as pit bulls. By working with Animal Farm Foundation, Julin saved a couple of canine lives. And these dogs prove every day all they can do with incredible drive and focus.

Let’s use more of what we have in the U.S. We do have a shortage of trained narcotics and weapon detecting dogs. The dogs imported are just fine, but they’re expensive. Instead, this paradigm saves lives and makes sense.
