Tamar Geller Walks the Walk, With Dogs and For Dogs
There’s one high profile dog trainer who gets too much press – let’s focus on those who should get more press. One of those is Tamar Geller.
It’s not that she’s a wallflower. Tamar has been on The Oprah Winfrey Show, and lots of national shows, and her latest book is “30 Days to a Well-Mannered Dog: The Loved Dog Method” (Simon and Schuster/Gallery Books, New York, NY, 2010; $25.99).
While I really think Tamar stresses ‘the wolf thing,’ a bit much (after all, it’s been a long time since our dogs have been wolves, or we’ve been like chimpanzees)….I just love her positive approach. And her approach is also based on science. So – guess what – what she suggests isn’t only humane, it really works!
Tamar was kind enough to answer several reader questions for my national newspaper column. Here are the questions and answers to this My Pet World column. (By the way, I chose this link because I stumbled upon it; I’m in more than 100 newspapers and online in the U.S., and in this online site based in Singapore).
What I LOVE most about Tamar is her heart. She walks the walk. Geller also founded Operation Heroes & Hounds, a non-profit that
provides injured members of the U.S. military with the opportunity to
coach and live with shelter dogs, many of which would otherwise have
been euthanized. The program saves dogs’ lives and enriches the spirits
of our returning soldiers with a canine mascot at their side.
