Tips from American Animal Hospital Association Veterinarian, Keeping Pets Safe in the Cold

American Animal Hospital Association senior veterinary officer Dr. Heather Loenser is all about keeping our pets safe in the cold. Here’s something not talked about a lot, but Loenser talks about it on my national Steve Dale’s Pet World radio show, that’s dehydration. Outside dogs’ water bowls can freeze, and water is otherwise impossible to come by. And for all chicken-keepers, know that birds dehydrate incredibly fast.

Who knew?

Frostbite is a real potential problem, or at least a pet may be really uncomfortable. Like those ice balls that form in the paw pads. Loenser is a fan protection for paws, like booties and pet-friendly street salts, like Safe Step Sure Paws. Also, she talks about her support of pet-friendly anti-freeze to keep pets safe.
