Getting into shape and losing a few (or more than a few) pounds is the most common New Year’s resolution.  HEAR personal trainer Ron Potocnik discuss tips for whipping yourself into better condition, as I filled in for John Williams on WGN Radio.

Ron’s most important advice, he says, simply “start small.” The biggest mistake people make is that people try to do too much too quickly and they get discouraged or worse, there’s an injury.

Most of us can begin by helping ourself merely by moving more. Take the stairs, enter in a workplace pedometer challenge, etc.

What are the advantages of having a personal trainer? And how do you find one that fits best with your goals?

We also discussed the problems with workout apps.

Ron talked about his biggest Train with Ron achievements, including getting someone who was over 300 lbs to drop over a year to just under 200 lbs. And there are many success stories like that, he says. He also trains prime athletes who just want to reach the next level.
