What really happens to dogs in hot cars?

Of course, I wasn’t going to subject a dog to the hot car to find out. So I put on my wife’s fake fur coat, as many dogs wear a fur coat year-round, and also put on a winter hat so I might experience the heat more like a dog.

At the beginning of this grand experiment,  it was 84 degrees, on a partly cloudy day with a nice gentle breeze off Lake Michigan. How quickly did the car heat up, and to what temperature?

Here’s more info from the American Veterinary Medical Association regarding dogs in hot cars.
