Winn Feline Foundation Funding

Winn Feline Foundation a few years back announced supporting funding for a drug to treat feline infectious peritonitis (FIP) nearly identical to Remdesivir being trialed and soon expected to be FDA approved for treatment of COVID-19 patients. Today, FIP in cats is considered treatable, as a similar compound to Remdesivir for cats to treat FIP is awaiting approval from the FDA Center for Veterinary Medicine. From the initial funding to better understand feline leukemia many decades ago to recent stem cell studies in cats, the Winn Feline Foundation remains an important funder of cat health research, and the only nonprofit that exists solely to fund cat health studies.

Here is the latest list of grants funded by Winn, s totaling $304,477.00 funded through the generous support of private and corporate donations from around the world.

This year, the Winn Feline Foundation’s Grant Review Committee reviewed forty four grant proposals and grants were awarded for the following studies:

 

W20-002 Mechanism of action of doxycycline in inhibiting feline infectious peritonitis virus.

W20-003 Developing a safe and effective anticoronaviral therapy for client-owned cats with FIP (continuation study).

W20-005 Determining the clinical efficacy of methfloquine for treatment of naturally occurring feline infectious peritonitis, stage 1.
