World Rabies Day

World Rabies Day is September 28. I’m not sure it’s a day you celebrate, per se…but Dr. Richard Ford, professor emeritus North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine says on my national Steve Dale’s Pet World radio show the goal is awareness.
Listen HERE as Ford explains that there’s only one reason why don’t have more rabies in America: We do a good job of vaccinating our dogs, and a reasonable job of vaccinating cats. Although there are far more instances in the U.S. of cats transmitting rabies, compared to dogs.
Over 60,000 people die annually around the world of the fatal disease.
Any warm blooded animal can get rabies – but not all wildlife species can transmit rabies. Rodents, for example, die of the disease before they can transmit it.
